4-217's Holiday Carolers led by Mrs.Gainer
PS55's Winter Wonderland and Door Decorating Contest
Congratulations to classes 3/4/5-237 and 3-233! They were tied for first place and to class 2-223 for coming in 3rd place. They have won an ice cream or pizza party of their choice.
We also have to mention our physical education and art doors won an honorable mention. The quality of work was just genuinely inspirational. All of their students will also receive a special surprise.
We would like to give a special thank you to our Student Council for developing the criteria/rubric and for judging all the doors in our school. This was a “very difficult” task for them as all our doors were AMAZING! They judged based on the following criteria: creativity, originality, design, theme and student-driven.
Today, the Student Council introduced a new Merit program during an assembly to all students in grades K-5. This program targets 8 competencies (life skills) that help us become successful people. It is not academically driven but rather a focus on our social and emotional development. Our entire PS55 community was involved in the development of this program but all final decisions were made by our student council. We are excited to kick off this program in the new year!
Our 1st-grade students planned holiday parade routes. They programmed Dash robots to follow their group's parade route and prepared code to follow the parade routes of their classmates.
Ms. Fishman and Mr. Giordano treated our AMAZING staff to a sweet afternoon with hot cocoa and cookies to kick off the holidays and thank them for their dedication to our students.
We rolled out the robots to celebrate Computer Science Education week!
Our Hero for a Hero project kickoff was a huge success! Students wore camouflage to kick off this fundraising event to support our local veterans. This is a student council fundraiser to support veterans around the holiday.
